Atlantic Forest
IPBio’s Atlantic Forest Program is based at the Betary Reserve, located in the municipality of Iporanga, in the Ribeira Valley, Southeast Brazil. The reserve lies within the largest continuous stretch of remaining Atlantic Forest—the most threatened biome in the country.
The Betary Reserve region is known for being a hotspot for bioluminescent fungi, attracting researchers from around the world. Volunteers in this program engage in fieldwork for the inventory of fish, amphibians, and birds, and support research on bioluminescent organisms, especially mushrooms.
