Betary Reserve Team

IPBio relies on a team of biologists, interns, and collaborators who carry out daily research and education activities at the Betary Reserve.

Henrique Domingos

Biologist – IPBio Manager

Since 2009, Henrique has been conducting research on the biodiversity of the Atlantic Forest in the Ribeira Valley region, particularly in and around the Betary Reserve, in Iporanga, São Paulo. He is currently responsible for managing IPBio’s operations.

Isaias Santos

Fauna Management Coordinator

Isaias Santos is a biologist with a postgraduate degree in Wildlife Management and Conservation from IPESSP – Institute for Research, Education, and Health of São Paulo. He has field research experience related to Atlantic Forest fauna, with a focus on birds and bioluminescent mushrooms. He works as a researcher at IPBio and is currently the technical coordinator for the Wildlife Release and Monitoring Area.

Imran Viroomal

Communications Director

Imran studied Economics and Politics at McGill University in Canada. He coordinates the Volunteer Program and manages OBBIO – the Biodiversity Observatory. He is also responsible for fundraising efforts and international communications.

Vitor Hugo

Field Coordinator – Volunteer Program

Vitor is responsible for coordinating the field activities of IPBio’s Volunteer Program at the Betary Reserve. He organizes the day-to-day work of volunteers throughout their stay in the program. He is also involved in meteor monitoring projects in partnership with BRAMON.

MSc. Olavo Henrique Petrucci

Research Biologist

Olavo holds a degree in Biological Sciences from São Paulo State University (UNESP) and a Master’s degree in Microbiology from the same institution. He has experience in edible mushroom cultivation, and during his graduate studies, he conducted a project in the bioprospecting of medicinal mushrooms aimed at discovering antiviral drug candidates. He currently focuses on active teaching methodologies for mycology and studies edible, medicinal, and bioluminescent mushrooms found in the Iporanga region of São Paulo.

Suzana Ehlin Martins

Research Biologist

Suzana holds a degree in Biological Sciences from Universidade Santa Cecília (1998). She is currently an Associate Researcher at the Biodiversity Research Institute (IPBio). Her experience lies in Ecology, with a focus on Ecosystem Ecology.

Alexandre de Oliveira

Research Assistant

Alexandre holds a degree in Biological Sciences from PUC-SP and has been working
since 2002 in the development of educational activities focused on Environmental Education.
His work aims to raise awareness among children, youth, and adults about the importance of
preserving and conserving natural resources.

VISITE A RESERVA BETARY!

A Reserva Betary possui 2 modalidades de visitação para o público em geral.

Visitação diurna (duração de 2 horas) – Programação

  1. Vídeo de apresentação da Reserva Betary e do OBBIO (Observatório da Biodiversidade – rede de câmeras de vídeo na floresta)
  2. Laboratório de fungos bioluminescentes (veja a luz dos cogumelos na escuridão do laboratório)
  3. Animal Facility (criação de organismos para alimentação da fauna)
  4. Estufa de anfíbios e bromeliário (estufa com terrários e micro-habitats para a reprodução de anfíbios, com bromélias, plantas aquáticas e paludosas)
  5. Sala Escura – Exposição de minerais fluorescentes (24 minerais, de diversas partes do mundo, que apresentam fluorescências com cores incríveis)
  6. Galeria Mágica das Aves da Mata Atlântica (ouça o canto das aves da floresta da Reserva Betary no seu próprio celular)
  7. Aquário submerso (experimente caminhar por baixo de um lago e observar os peixes nativos da região)
  8. Trilhas (desfrute da floresta e da paisagem fascinante do Rio Betary e visite o nosso deck, implantado à margem do Poço dos Veados).

Horário: 

  • De segunda a sexta e feriados prolongados (não precisa de reserva): Sessões às 10:00, 11:00, 15:00 e 16:00hs
  • Sábados e domingos: Horário a combinar, mediante reserva de no mínimo 4 pessoas, com 3 dias de antecedência.

Ingresso: R$ 60,00/visitante (menores de 6 anos não pagam e crianças de 6 a 14 anos pagam meia entrada).
